Bharat Dynamics Completes First Production Model of Advanced Akash Weapon System
Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has successfully completed the first-off production model of the advanced Akash Weapon System, marking a significant milestone in India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities. The development represents a major step forward in strengthening the country’s air defence infrastructure.
The advanced Akash system is an upgraded version of the existing surface-to-air missile platform, designed to enhance operational performance with improved accuracy, mobility, and response time. It is capable of engaging multiple aerial threats, including fighter aircraft, drones, and missiles, making it a critical component of modern battlefield defence.
Following the successful completion of the production model, deliveries of the advanced Akash Weapon Systems to the Indian Armed Forces are expected to commence shortly. This transition from development to deployment highlights the growing maturity of India’s defence production ecosystem.
The project aligns with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, aimed at boosting self-reliance in defence manufacturing and reducing dependence on imports. Bharat Dynamics, as a key defence public sector undertaking, continues to play a pivotal role in supplying advanced missile systems to the armed forces.
The induction of the advanced Akash system is expected to significantly enhance India’s air defence capabilities, while also reinforcing the country’s position as a producer of cutting-edge military technology.
